Description

Set of 4 Vintage Diner Stools These are classic Mid-Century Modern diner counter stools, a fantastic set of four embodying the iconic look of a 1950s soda fountain or luncheonette. The style is immediately recognizable: a round, padded seat upholstered in a striking red vinyl paired with a heavy chrome-plated metal column base, featuring the characteristic triple horizontal chrome rings around the seat rim and decorative stepped rings on the pedestal. Given the construction and style, they are almost certainly American-made, perhaps by a firm like Chicago Hardware Foundry or Chromcraft. These stools were built for heavy commercial use, using durable materials like cast iron for the bases (likely weighted for stability) and steel for the column, which has a worn chrome finish. The condition is well-loved and as-found, with all four stools showing significant cosmetic wear consistent with institutional use and age. The red vinyl seats are cracked and ripped on all four, with the stuffing visible through some tears. The chrome plating on the seat rims and pedestal columns is pitted, scratched, and exhibits loss and oxidation, with some areas of rust and surface corrosion particularly visible on the cast iron bases. One stool shows a considerable amount of black paint loss on the column. They will require full restoration or can be displayed as excellent patina-rich industrial decor. Each measure 21” tall and 12” seat diameter. I’ll have a grilled cheese and cup of tomato soup please. See photos.
