October Fall Classic
Lot 2024a:
Description
A stunning example of reverse-paint, chipped glass, mirror sign , this “Fresh Roasted Peanuts” is a contemporary reproduction and is a great piece of Americana. The “chipped glass” background technique gives the piece a unique texture that really catches the light, while the black lettering and decorative scrollwork give it a classic, elegant look. The ¼” plate glass has a 1” bevel all the way around. This type of signage was popular in the late Victorian era and into the 1920s, used on vendor wagons, in general stores, pharmacies, and theaters to advertise goods. The piece appears to be in excellent shape, unframed, with the protective peel off plastic on the front still intact. The sign measures approximately 53″ wide by 15.5″ tall.
Circa 1940’s cast aluminum carousel horse most likely from a San Antonio Roller Works or a Mangles carousel. All we know is that it came off of a carousel that was parted out in southern Illinois in the 1970’s. The horse is a jumper with very nice paint. Comes mounted on a pole and a steel diamond plate base. Comes with a pair of stirrups but no straps or bridle.
