Description
This hexagonal case is about 13″ long with a wood body, iron frame and leather covering. On the front is marked “BLAKELEES CARTRIDGE BOX” “U.S. PaTed. Dec 20 1864 Reissued FEB 1865” with the Springfield address. Inside the case are 10 soldered iron tubes, for 7 cartridges. These tubes have 40 complete rounds in various condition. The inside lid is stamped “JDH” and case comes with leather sling. The condition is good plus with wear and age. The lid has separated from case and leather lid securing strap has a lot of wear and a break at hole. The leather is not broken and has loose seams. The brass fittings have a nice patina and sling is not too dried out and has full flexibility. The lid can be properly restored to reattach. This is a “holy grail” kind of accessory and must have for serious Spencer collectors.
