Lot 281:
Description
This is an early Massachusetts State Militia Kepi for the rank of lieutenant. It has matching Mass buttons. Bullion chinstrap looks to be tight to hat and in very solid condition. The visor is flat with slight upturn on wearer’s left side and shows much crazing on both sides. Something may have dripped on the visor top causing the 3 white dimples marks. The body show wear and age with sporadic peppering of moth holes and some moth tracks. Lining show wear and age. Burgundy colored sweatband and visor are both tightly stitched in place. Black silk drawnstring lining is in excellent shape. Kepi color is strong and overall condition is good plus. The Massachusetts specialists with like this one a lot.
