Description
This unique canteen was most likely made in mid-20th Century for early reenacting or spurious purposes. It is 8.25″ in diameter and has a smooth wooden body covered with a white/grey denim. One side is marked in ink “C.S. 5th CAV TEXAS” and J.C. BELL” or “BELE”. The rim sides are covered with thick black leather and held in place with domed washers and nails. The thick black leather shoulder strap is intact but has mold, dryness, cracking and crazing. The cork stopper has some crumbling and has leather cord secured to one of the side nails. The pattern of the denim appears pixilated and makes the markings and name hard to read. Great for inexpensive display or for study.
