Coin Op & Advertising - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 3
Lot 2249:
Description
These two quintessential pieces of mid-century Americana feature the iconic artistry of George Petty and Joe De Mers, showcasing the celebrated “Esquire Girl” aesthetic that defined the era. The 1948 Esquire “Glamour Gallery” calendar includes the “Essay on Jiggling” by George J. McNamara, which frames the “jiggle” as a complex, almost scientific cultural phenomenon. In contrast, the 1947 Petty pin-up calendar focuses exclusively on the visual impact of the artwork, notably omitting the thematic verse or witty prose found on many other contemporary calendar pages. Condition-wise, both calendars remain structurally sound and free of significant tears or creases; however, they exhibit expected signs of age, including instances of foxing and minor blemishes consistent with long-term vintage storage. 1948 Calendar: H 12″, W 8.25″, D 0.25″. 1947 Calendar: H 12.25″, W 9″, D 0.25″. Please see photos for condition.
