Description
This is a charming piece of turn-of-the-century Tobacciana—a countertop display case advertising “Y-B’s,” the signature brand of the Yocum Brothers cigar manufacturers out of Reading, Pennsylvania. Constructed with a sturdy wooden frame, likely oak or stained hardwood, the case features glass panels on the front, top, and sides to offer a clear view of the merchandise within. Access is provided by two sliding wooden doors at the rear. The interior floor retains a partial, original paper decal featuring a cigar graphic and the slogan “Buy Y-B’s and Buy Y-B’s,” a nostalgic nod to early 20th-century advertising. This case would have originally sat on a general store or smoke shop counter, enticing customers with “Quality Cigars.”
The case is in fair to good antique condition. The wood finish shows expected wear, including scuffs, scratches, and finish loss, particularly along the top edges and corners consistent with age and use. The glass panels appear intact but would benefit from a thorough cleaning. The interior decal is heavily distressed, with significant portions torn away, though the central cigar graphic and branding remain legible. Structurally, the frame appears stable.
