A Classic Opulence and General Antiques Auction ONLINE ONLY
Lot 219a:
Description
This handsome footstool, with its clean, rectilinear form and dark finish, is a quintessential example of the American Arts and Crafts style, likely dating to the early 20th century. The robust, dark-stained quarter-sawn oak frame features pinned tenon construction, a hallmark of quality craftsmanship often associated with manufacturers like Stickley or Limbert. The rectangular seat is generously padded and covered in what appears to be an aged, distressed brown leather or imitation leather upholstery. The piece is in good antique condition structurally, though the dark finish shows minor surface wear consistent with age, and the upholstery is quite worn with significant cracking, crazing, and fading, suggesting it may be original or very old, and a candidate for restoration to bring out the piece’s full value. H 17″, W 20″, D 12″.
