Description
Three prehistoric stone grooved axes-North America. Axe #1 is the largest of the three and made from a smooth dark grey stone featuring a well-defined groove around its center. A length of sinew has been added to simulate how it may have been hafted to a handle. Dimensions: 6.75” x 4.25” 2.5”. Axe #2 is smaller and made from a rougher more textured stone. Its groove is prominent. One end is blunted and coarse while the other end is very rounded. Dimensions: 4.5” x 4” x2.75”. Axe #3 is made from a lighter colored, possibly sedimentary rock. It has a similar groove depth of axe #2 ,and its point tapers quite sharply. It is very smooth suggesting a significant amount of use or effort to craft. Dimensions: 5.75” x 4” x 2.25”. See photos.
