The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 2122:
Description
A 19th/20th Century Pacific Samoan-State club. Carried on festive occasions, this club is beautiful and bold, with decoration that is remarkably simple and strong-lined for Polynesia. Four groups of chevrons separated by clean flat spaces. A crudely carved star on the surface of the uppermost flat area. The base has remnants of a ridge that had holes for textile to pass through. Chips and breaks in the ridges and base have occurred from age and use. Measures 28.5” long and 3.75” at its widest at the head. An impressive State club from the warriors of the Samoan islands. Please see photos.
