Description

This collection features four black and white pencil-style military aircraft prints and one accompanying correspondence letter. Each print is individually signed by the legendary WWII flying ace Colonel Herschel H. “Herky” Green (USAAF 325th Fighter Group, “Checkertail Clan”), making this a significant piece of aviation history memorabilia. Col. Green, the leading ace of the 15th Air Force with 18 aerial victories and 10 ground kills, flew all three aircraft types depicted in these prints: the P-40 Warhawk, the P-47 Thunderbolt, and the P-51 Mustang. The prints are part of a limited-edition series and feature detailed profile views of the iconic fighters, complete with squadron markings (note the checkered tail in one, the group’s insignia). The paper prints with pencil/ink markings and a handwritten signature, along with a separate folded informational letter/paperwork, are a crucial component for verification. The condition is very good for all four prints, showing no obvious tears, significant creases, or fading to the image or the signatures. The accompanying letter is folded, as expected. Part of the John Bannister Collection. H 11″, W 17″. See photos.
