The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 1035:
Description
An incredibly historical piece of World War II memorabilia, centered around Admiral Kichisaburo Nomura, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States in Washington, D.C., at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941. The collection features a black and white photograph showing Ambassador Nomura (seated, on the right, smiling) and Special Envoy Saburo Kurusu (seated, on the left), who were infamous for delivering Japan’s formal declaration of war to the United States well after the attack on Pearl Harbor had already begun. Also included is a handwritten signature of K. Nomura in both Western and Japanese script, and an envelope addressed to the “Imperial Japanese Embassy” in Washington, D.C. The overall presentation is professionally matted and framed under acrylic. The collection is in very good condition; the frame is solid, and the photo and signature documents are well-preserved. There is some minor scuffing visible on acrylic. Part of the John Bannister Collection. H 16.25″, W 20.25″, D 0.75″
