The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 1022:
Description
NAVY “Special Type 99″ 7.7 Rifle in very good condition with wear and a very good bore with some frosting. The stock is uniquely painted:”Tokyo August 28, 1945”, (the occupation of Japan by Allied forces began in Tokyo), probably by the GI who brought it home. There is a soft anchor stamped into the chamber hood. Stock has a wooden dowel, like most of these. This is a very good example of a War souvenir that would be a “stand out” piece in a collection.
