Description
This kepi is full of character. It has an unknown cavalry insignia on the crown with metal cross swords on top of blue wool bordered in coiled wire on top of white wool scallop shaped design with threaded rays and another coiled wire border. Has front bullion wire insignia for the 49th which has darkened. The visor shows heavy crazing on both sides. The chinstrap has no buttons and is held in place with a number of pins. The chin cord is gold-plated copper mesh and has darkened to almost black. The fine blue wool body has some large and small moth holes. The body is partly held in place to the sweatband and visor with modern pins. The front of the sweatband has heavy insect damage. Lining is brown cotton with a drawstring center. This hat shows dust and wear and age and in spite of its condition issues, it maintains its shape and display ability.
