Civil War Auction
Lot 191:
This is hat is non-regulation Civil War. The 2nd Regt insignia has false embroidered infantry horn on heavy black felt. Velvet border around bugle shows some moth tracks. The button is skinny eagle style with ‘I” for infantry with black cotton cloth rosette. Black ostrich feather is firmly attached. The hat body is in fine condition with some wear, age and light staining. The gold bullion hat cord is well made and in very good condition and may be a post war replacement. The lining has large manufacturer’s gold colored logo that is worn but readings “Exposition Universelle”. The brown leather sweatband is complete and shows wear and age with tight stitching. The lining has two colors with the purple part showing tears. Overall condition is very good plus. The “pot pie” style slouch hat are indeed hard to find.
