This magnificent chandelier is one of six matching fixtures that were installed in the Goodman Auditorium located in Virginia, Minnesota, in 1920. There are 2 of the six in this auction. The 1500 seat Goodman was called the Carnegie Hall of the midwest because of its excellent acoustics. The last performance was held on May 20, 2023. The building is currently being readied for demolition. The chandelier is a classic pre depression 3 tier type found in large auditoriums, movie palaces, and large commercial buildings. The iron and steel structure is hung from 6 heavy cascading chains with each chain having an ornamental break in the center. The top tier has a pierced ornamental gallery with 24 standard base lamps and measures 56″ in diameter. The second tier has 8 standard base lamps and measures 22″ in diameter. The bottom tier has a 6 standard base cluster with a 10″ finial of formed metal acanthus leaves. Overall height of the fixture is 106″. This does not include the 10″ ceiling canopy or the hoist pipe which is included. The chandelier can have a longer drop by adding chain between the canopy ring and the fixture ring. The fixture has recently been rewired and is ready to go. The weight is estimated at 300 lbs. The 2nd fixture from the Goodman Auditorium is in the previous lot. Seldom do these fixtures ever come up for sale as most of these buildings are now landmarked and the cost to reproduce a chandelier of this quality and size would be out of the question. No shipping on this item. Customer pickup or 3rd party transport only.
