This Saxon Orchestrion “Eldorado” machine in its large oak cabinet has been refinished and is in average condition with several pieces of decorative crown molding at the top that is either loose or missing.. The cabinet features 4 turned columns on the front as well as two large reverse painted glass panels featuring water, mountains, trees and a castle scene. The lower front panel which is flanked by 2 fluted pilasters gives access to a storage compartment for an additional wooden cob. This instrument plays a large 10″ D X 25″ L 6 tune wooden barrel/cob. The crank wound weight operated mechanism that is coin operated with a 10 mark coin features piano with mandolin affects, castanets, wood bar xylophone, cymbal and drum. The piano has a cast iron harp and the weights which operate the instrument are housed in a bin which hangs from a cable on the back side of the instrument. The entire mechanism is quite clean for its age. The machine comes with one additional 9 tune wooden cob. Also included are the two old original front glass panels. Also included are two cabinet keys, This machine was made in Germany by an unknown maker circa 1890-1910. An interesting bit of trivia is this instrument came out of Butch McGuire’s Saloon, 20 W. Division Street, Chicago and in service there till 1994. Cabinet measures 40″ W X 22″ D X 89″ T. Was said to be in good working order when moved to our location.
