Lot 2186:
Description
Two carved stone smoking pipes. The first is a classic, plain L-shaped elbow pipe featuring a mottled dark grey and brown stone composition with subtle lighter speckling. The second is an effigy pipe expertly carved into the likeness of a bird, showcasing fine, stylized incised lines to represent feathers along the body and a distinct beak and eyes at the bowl’s end. The effigy pipe also retains a small paper collection label on the side reading “Cherokee”. Both pieces exhibit a smooth, aged patina with minor surface scratches, tiny chips around the rims, and light wear consistent with age and handling. Plain pipe: H 2.25″, W 1.25″, D 5.5″. Bird pipe: H 3″, W 1.5″, D 6″. Please see photos for condition.
