Description

This is a beautiful example of a Currier & Ives lithograph titled “The Rocky Mountains: Emigrants Crossing the Plains.” This piece of Americana captures the spirit of Westward Expansion and is a classic representation of the 19th-century American landscape by the renowned printing firm from New York (N.Y.). The image, originally drawn by E.F. Palmer (E.F. Palmer Del.) in 1866, depicts a wagon train of settlers, complete with oxen and covered wagons, navigating a lush valley with towering mountains in the background. The print is a lithograph, matted, and housed in a simple, traditional black wood frame no glazing. The condition appears to be good for its age; the paper shows expected toning/age-related yellowing on the wide mat and possibly the print itself, and there’s a visible dot matrix pattern consistent with the lithography process. Some damage in upper left quadrant of print, minimal. The frame shows minor surface wear. H 23.5″, W 17.5″, D 1″.
