Description

This evocative assembly of Western Americana centers on an exceptionally rare, unused 1890s letterhead from the Office of the Sheriff in Uinta County, Wyoming. The stationery features the names of Sheriff John H. Ward and Deputy Robert Calverly, the lawmen famed for the 1894 capture of the legendary outlaw Butch Cassidy. The lot is bolstered by two significant fiscal documents: a lithographed 1881 Nevada State Controller’s warrant paid from the “State Prison Fund” and an 1890 Montana State warrant issued for a District Judge’s salary. Rounding out the group is a Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) of Officer Robert Bush “Pop” Butler of Hobbs, New Mexico, pictured with his revolver circa 1939; Butler was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1951. The paper items show excellent preservation with crisp edges on the letterhead and standard historical handling, ink signatures, and cut-cancellation on the warrants. The RPPC remains clear with minor edge wear. H 11″, W 8.5″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition.
