Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2141:
Description
This remarkable collection of eleven historic images features two primary thematic groups: the “Bronco Busters” and “Armed Cowboys,” dating from the late 1890s through the 1920s. The identifying provenance is particularly significant, such as the 1924 RPPC from Canton’s Ranch in Wolf, Wyoming, and the 1892 cabinet card depicting an armed cowboy with a holstered revolver and shotgun. The group also includes a large cabinet card of “Uncle Charles Koaler” (mount 10 3/4″ x 7 1/2″, image 8″ x 6″) and a bronco buster cabinet card (mount 8″ x 10″, image 5″ x 7 1/4″). These pieces capture the authentic grit of the frontier, featuring period-correct saddlery and traditional attire like wrist cuffs and concho-adorned chaps. The items show expected wear for their age, including light contrast, corner rounding, trimmed card mounts, and areas of surface soiling, foxing, or fading. H 10.75″, W 8″, D 0.1″.
