Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2145:
Description
This evocative 11-piece archive offers a rare glimpse into the early 20th-century American Frontier, featuring a curated selection of six Real Photo Postcards (RPPC), one large cabinet card, and four snapshots. The standouts are the interior saloon views, including the “Crystal Saloon” in Nevada and the “First Branch Saloon” in Eden Valley, Minnesota, with era-appropriate stamp boxes such as VELOX (1909-1914) and EKKP (1904-1950). The collection further expands into ranch life with depictions of “Shortie the Bucking Bronc” and Texas cowboys in traditional chaps. These items are primarily printed on vintage photographic cardstock and paper. Physically, the collection is in good vintage condition, exhibiting expected age-related wear including minor silvering, light foxing, corner softening, and occasional surface scratches or fading. The largest piece, a cabinet card of a winter ranch scene, measures 10″ across by 8″ tall with an image size of approximately 8.25″ x 5.25″. H 8″, W 10″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition.
