Description
This stately 19th-century oval lithograph features a dignified portrait of General Ulysses S. Grant in his military uniform with three-star shoulder straps, noted as being “from a photograph.” The print was published by Moore & Goodspeed, 37 Park Row, New York, a notable mid-to-late 19th-century publishing house. It is housed in a period-correct Victorian ebonized wood frame featuring ornate gesso floral appliqués and a gilded inner liner. The reverse retains its authentic wood-slat backing secured with hand-cut nails and early wire hardware. The frame displays significant age-related wear, including various cracks and chips in the ebonized finish and loss to the gesso floral accents. The print shows mild foxing and water staining along the bottom edge, though the portrait remains sharp. H 14″, W 12″, D 1.5″. Please see photos for condition.
