Description

This historically intriguing collection features 19th-century cabinet cards and CDVs associated with legendary figures such as “Black Bart” (Charles Boles), Sheriff Frank Canton (Joe Horner), and John Wesley Hardin. Notable studio marks include the Camillus Fly Studio of Tombstone, A.T. and the St. Louis Art Studio. While these items bear period identifiers and vintage handwritten notations, they are presented as a historical archive for study; buyers should perform their own research to confirm the identity of the sitters, as misidentification was common in period family albums. The lot also includes a mid-century (circa 1960s) promotional postcard for the “Trial of Jack McCall” in Deadwood, South Dakota. The 19th-century items show typical age-related foxing, corner wear, and light surface staining, while the 20th-century postcard remains relatively crisp. Cabinet card for Black Bart: H 6″, W 4.5″; Sheriff Joe Horner: H 6.5″, W 4.25″; Seth: H 6.5″, W 4.25″; J.V.
