Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2082:
Description
This collection features three intricately crafted pieces of Native American style regalia, likely mid-to-late 20th-century artisan or hobbyist creations. The centerpiece is a beaded leather knife sheath featuring a tapered design and a lazy-stitch beadwork panel in a geometric “bar” pattern of red, yellow, and green. While the reverse bears a handwritten maker’s mark, the primary value lies in the craftsmanship of the glass seed beads and the soft, supple buckskin construction. Also included is a tall, feathered doll-sized headdress with vibrant red down and a blue-and-white beaded brow band, alongside a circular beaded medallion with long, twisted buckskin fringe. All items show light, age-appropriate wear; the leather remains pliable and the beadwork is remarkably intact, with only minor surface soiling on the sheath’s reverse. Sheath: H 10″, W 3″. Headdress: H 12″, W 5″, D 3″. Please see photos.
