Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2048:
Description
This collection offers a fascinating cross-section of early 1900s history and mid-century Americana. At its core is a U.S. Regulation brass bugle, bearing faint “C.G. Conn” markings on the rim, a hallmark of WWI-era military brass. It is complemented by a 1913 Navy Department Annual Report and a WWI Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) of two soldiers in doughboy uniforms. The collection includes a set of three vintage firearm cleaning rods (musket rods), likely for a long-gun or carbine; these feature a slotted tip for patches and a threaded assembly, showing a dark, aged patina on the iron or steel. The lot transitions into Western interest with a 1978 Montana Trapper brass belt buckle and a Fred Harvey-style copper bracelet with stamped Native American motifs. Collector smalls include Colt checkered hard rubber grips, a decorative Aztec-motif metal grip, and two cast iron pieces: a motorcycle rider toy and a “Laughing Donkey” bottle opener. The bugle shows heavy “field-worn” denting; the Navy report has significant shelf wear; the cast iron items show expected paint loss. H 24″, W 15″, D 6″ Please see photos for condition.
