Description

This striking architectural element, likely a Northern Indian or Rajasthani “Haveli” bracket, is masterfully hewn from a single dense block of dark tropical hardwood. The piece features a caparisoned horse with intricate floral and chain-link motifs carved into the tack, showcasing the rhythmic, folk-art precision of 19th-century regional craftsmanship. The elongated tenon at the rear indicates it was originally designed to be inset into a structural masonry or timber wall to support an overhanging roof or balcony. The wood displays a rich, naturally aged patina with expected age-related desiccation cracks (checking), minor scuffs, and softening of the crispness on the highest points of the relief, all of which confirm its authentic utility and age.
