Description

This collection features an impressive variety of ground stone tools, likely originating from the Archaic to Woodland periods. The standout 9-inch redstone celt or pestle exhibits a beautiful ferruginous hue and smooth finish, typical of high-quality utilitarian or ceremonial tools. The highly polished discoidal (round stone) is a particularly fine example, possibly used in “Chunkey” games or as a ritual object, featuring a distinct central indentation and a side groove that suggests it was held or hafted with precision. The accompanying pink quartzite and greenstone celts show significant “pecking” marks and polish, indicating long-term use in grinding or skinning. Condition is excellent for burial or surface finds, showing authentic patination, minor mineral deposits, and soft edge wear without modern fractures. L 9″, W 1.75″, D 1″ (Redstone); Dia 2.75″, H 1.25″ (Round Stone); W 4.25″, H 2″ (Pink Stone); W 4″, H 2″ (Green Stone). Please see photos.
